VietNamNet Bridge – Many young people in big cities of Vietnam like Hanoi and HCM City now prefer an “independent life” like young people in western countries.

In the eyes of Vietnamese parents, their children are always very “small” and need “special care” no matter how old they are. Recently, many youngsters want to leave their parents’ homes to live in rooms for rent to enjoy the feeling of freedom.

Many forums of young people who live independently have been opened with the names “Group of people who love independent life”, “I like a self-reliant lifestyle”, etc.

Lan, a student from Hanoi University, whose parents live in Hanoi, said she that she wanted to live alone and take care herself like her friends, whose families are far from Hanoi. These students can both study and work to support themselves and Lan wanted to be one of them.

Thuy, a student from the Hanoi Foreign Trade University, moved from her parents’ house in Hanoi to hire a small room with her own money which she earned from teaching Japanese and translating Japanese documents. With good Japanese and a good spending plan, Thuy can support herself very well.

Thuy’s parents didn’t agree with her choice at the beginning but now they are happy with their daughter’s decision.

Ngoc Anh, who has just graduated from the Institute for Press, left her parents’ home immediately when she received her university diploma. She worked as a freelancer for many newspapers when she was a student so she immediately found a job after graduation.

“The most important thing when you live alone is balancing your spending. You should have a book to take note your daily spending,” Ngoc Anh said.

“An independent lifestyle is not good sometimes because you will feel alone and want to return to your parents’ arms,” she added.

However, some youngsters did not understand the true meaning of living independently. They thought very simply that if they do not live with their parents, they can live however they want. They can go out whenever they like, don’t have to do housework, etc. Many youngsters who had mentality had to give up the independent lifestyle very quickly.
