A man in the Central Highlands province of Lam Dong owns a huge fossil tooth. Archaeologists said the thing is a fossil tooth of an Asian elephant.

A man, who lives in Bui Thi Xuan Street, Da Lat city, accidentally saw a giant tooth-shaped object in the home of his acquaintance. He bought the object and brought it to many experts of antiques to ask them what it was. They told him that this is a fossil elephant tooth, which was formed through the process of millions of years in the ground.

This tooth weighs 5 kg, with a length of about 30 cm. The tooth structure consists of many blades, which are mounted together.

Dr. Trinh Nang Chung, from the Vietnam Institute of Archaeology said this is a tooth of an Asian elephant. Its scientific name is Elephas maximus, also known as the Indian elephant. This species is smaller than the African elephant. Asian elephants are from 2.5 to 4 m in height and weigh between 3000-4000 kg.
