The Vietnamese shooters won three more golds yesterday, raising their number of medals to 26 - far higher than their target for the tournament.

Hoang Xuan Vinh scored 586 points in the men’s 25m centre-fire pistol event to win his third gold of the tournament. On Sunday, Vinh triumphed in the men’s 10m air pistol individual and team events.

The silver medal went to Pohlip Meng of Singapore, who finished on 580 points. He was followed by Yang Joe Csi, from Hong Kong, with 566.

Meanwhile, four golds went to Vietnamese sharpshooter Vinh, Pham Cao Son and two-time Olympian Nguyen Manh Tuong in the team event. They finished on 1,733 points.

Singapore came second in the team event, just five points behind. Hong Kong finished third with 1,669 points.

Vietnam’s final shooting gold went to veteran Tham Thuy Hong in the women’s three-position (knee, stand, prone) rifle event. The Southeast Asian champion scored 661.1 points.

Fong Hui Zhi Joanna from Singapore finished second with 650.8 points and Wihardanti Inca Ferry of Indonesia finished third with 640.1.

Vietnam also won a silver and a bronze yesterday in the men’s skeet events.

His was Vietnam’s second silver in the skeet event.

Nguyen Thi Duc Hanh came second in the women’s contest on Sunday.

Malaysia’s Teh Cheefei clinched the bronze with 131 points.

Tuan also won a bronze medal in the team event after the host team scored 281 points.

Chang’s gold medal was not enough to win the team gold as his two teammates scored just 179 points. They finished with 313 points in third place. The gold went to Malaysia, who finished with 325 points.

Vietnam, who were hoping to win 10 to 15 golds at the tournament, finished with 26 golds, 11 silvers and four bronzes.

Indonesia, who failed to win a single gold on the last two days, held on to second place with five golds, four silvers and one bronze medal.

Taipei finished third with five golds, three silvers and five bronzes.

Meanwhile, Malaysia won the junior tournament, finishing with nine golds, four silvers and three bronze medals. Vietnam finished second with three golds, eight silvers and five bronzes.
