Vietnam’s U22 team suffered a 2-0 loss to former Brazilian players in a friendly match in Ho Chi Minh City’s Thong Nhat Stadium last night.

The taller, bigger and more experienced Brazilians controlled the match better during the match while the host team, who won the Merdeka Cup in Malaysia last Saturday, tried hard to stop their attacks.

The home team succeeded in preventing the Brazilians from scoring in the first half; but only six minutes into the second, the Brazilians took the lead when Giovanni scored from a penalty after he was tackled by Vietnam’s Chu Ngoc Anh.

Five minutes later, an unmarked Giovanni, who was in the Brazilian team that were the 1998 World Cup runners-up, scored his second goal from outside the penalty box.

Coach Mai Duc Chung made some changes and the Vietnamese players tried harder, but they failed to score a consolation goal despite getting close a few times.
