Little Olympians: The Hai Duong primary school football team, winner of the Phu Dong Sports Milo Festival, will compete in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations’ Primary School Sport Olympiad in Jakarta next week.

This is the second time a Vietnamese team have participated in the event and the first time the winner of the Milo Cup was chosen to represent the country

Begun in 2007, the Olympiad is a sports event held by Indonesia’s Ministry of Education for elementary school students of the nine ASEAN countries.

Viet Nam’s team was runner-up to the host team Indonesia in APSSO 2007, receiving five gold, two silver and two bronze medals.

The Vietnamese delegation this year will also compete in chess, athletics, badminton and table tennis.

“We’re very glad that for the second time our potential sports talents have an opportunity to participate in a competition of international scope, such as APSSO, at such a young age,” said Ngu Duy Anh of the Ministry of Education and Training.

“The five teams are the best seeds of Viet Nam’s sports and represent our hope and pride in the international playing field.”

The final round of the Cup took place in August this year with the participation of the 16 best primary school teams around the country.

Nestle Milo has been the exclusive sponsor for the football competition among Viet Nam’s primary school students for eight years.
