Hieu sprints for first in men’s 40km time trial

VietNamNet BridgeNational team member Mai Cong Hieu sprinted to a first place finish in the men’s 40km time trial in the National Cycling Championship in Hoa Binh Province on Sunday.

Hieu, who competes for Domesco Dong Thap, clocked 48 minutes and 23 seconds to beat Bui Minh Thuy of Vinh Long, who came in second at 51.39mins, and Nguyen Van Duc of An Giang Plant Protection, who finished third with a time of 51.49mins.

In the women’s race, Doan Thi Cam Mien of Agifish An Giang placed first after knocking 44.23mins of her time in the 27.2km time trial.

The An Giang-based cyclist beat Sai Gon Plant Protection riders Nguyen Thi Hoang Oanh in second place, and Dang Huong Thao in third.

The championship will continue with the men’s 80km time trial and the women’s 50km race.

The national championship will consist of eight cross-country and 12 road race events.

The competition will finish on Saturday with the women’s 25km and men’s 35km cross-country races.
