Dai Trang is one of the local rising stars competing at the U18 International Tennis Tournament in southern Binh Duong Province.

A couple of young Vietnamese tennis talents have continued to impress the home fans at the U18 International Tennis Federation Becamex Cup, in southern Binh Duong Province.

Rising star Hoang Thien, 13, advanced to the semifinals after defeating the seventh seed from Thailand who is three years older than him.

The two players had a hard-fought battle that lasted almost three hours under the midday sun.

Thien won the first set 6-4, but lost the second. In the deciding set, the thirteen year old mustered up his strength to dispose of the Thai opponent.

After the match, both athletes collapsed due to exhaustion. It marked the third straight victory for Thien, who had beaten the fourth seed from Japan and a tough player from the Republic of Korea in his two previous matches.

Thien will now face the top seed from Thailand, but he may try to reserve some energy because he is due to compete in the U14 Asian Tennis Championship tournament starting tomorrow in Bahrain.

If Thien performs well in the next tournament, he will be able to book a berth in the Australian Open tournament for juniors next year.

In the women’s singles, Lam Anh crushed a Thai opponent 6-3, 6-3 and will encounter the third seed from Malaysia in the semis, while Dai Trang will play a Thai fourth seed after beating another player from Thailand 5-7, 6-1, 6-4.

In the women’s doubles, Lam Anh and Ngoc Van advanced to the final after dominating a team from Malaysia and Thailand 6-1, 6-0.

They will now do battle against the duo of Trang and another player from Thailand for ultimate bragging rights.
