New Zealand’s North Habour players try to block an attack from Long An’s Hoang Long in the Sting Cup.

Thailand’s Nakhon Club had a seesaw victory over New Zealand’s North Habour on Tuesday night at the Ho Chi Minh City International Volleyball Tournament.

North Habour took the early lead at District 3’s Phan Dinh Phung Sports Hall by winning the first set 25-23 before losing 23-25 in the second. The Kiwis won the third set 25-20 and lost 20-25 in the fourth.

Despite suffering a narrow 18-20 loss in the deciding set, the NZ team was in much better form than during their 0-3 opener loss against HCMC’s

Thep Viet, and their prospects are improving for a spot in the much-anticipated semis.

Myanmar were early strugglers in the tournament losing to Long An’s Hoang Long Sunday and Nakhon on Monday but could still fire up.

Thep Viet have a good chance to progress but showed signs of weakening Tuesday when they submitted to Hoang Long.

The tournament, which started last Sunday and runs until this Sunday, is sponsored by Pepsi Company’s “Sting” brand.
