Vietnamese top player Duong Anh Vu joined the ranks of the world’s top 20 billiards competitors last week.

Vu, who won a gold medal at the Asian Indoor Games in Macau last year, gained 16 points after qualifying for the quarter-finals at the Asian Cup to place 19th in the International Billiards Union’s rankings.

Another Vietnamese player, Tran Chi Thanh ranked 27th with total 78 points.

Viet Nam to compete at Princess

Viet Nam will compete in the Princess Cup Women’s Volleyball Invitation in Thailand this week, said the Viet Nam Volleyball Federation.

The team will gather their best squad for the tough competition against rival powerhouses after suffering a fifth place finish at the Asian Women’s Volleyball Cup in Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand, last week.

At the Princess Cup two years ago, Viet Nam bagged a silver medal after a 3-0 loss to Thailand’s Sangsom in the final.

The team has drawn a place in group A with China’s Sichuan, Thailand’s Sangsom, and Pioneer from Japan. Teams from Indonesia, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, and Numprapa Nakhounluang, Laos make up the rest of group B.

Hanoian finswimmer breaks 2 records

Hanoian Duong Thi Huyen Trang broke two records at the National Finswimming Championships in HCM City on Sunday.

Trang set a new record in 200m surface diving (diving with a snorkel) with a time of 1:34.72, saving 2.18 seconds off her own’ record of 1:36,fi4, set at the National Young Finswimming Championship in Ha Noi in July. The Hanoian helped her team break the 100m record in the team relay event on Sunday when Ha Noi won the race with a time of 2:56.09 (the old record was set by Ha Noi in 2003 with 2:57.51).
