S Korean You Jin-a wins yellow; Thai club takes home Sting Cup; VN-US player to try out V-League; Olympic football team eyes bonuses

South Korean You Jin-a finished first in the second stage of the Ha Noi Television and Radio Cup International Women’s Cycling Tournament yesterday.

You finished the 98-km race from Ha Nam to Thanh Hoa Province with a time of three hours and 21.52 minutes to wear the yellow jersey. It was her second victory following her first stage win around Ha Noi’s Hoan Kiem Lake on Sunday.

Her teammate Noh Hyo-sung and Vietnamese cyclist Phan Thi Thuy Trang shared second place with a time of 3:22.02.

The cyclists will race 70km from Thanh Hoa to Vinh City today.

Thai club takes home Sting Cup

Nakhon Ratchasima brought the HCM City International Volleyball Tournament – Sting Cup home, after beating Hoang Long Long An in the final match on Sunday.

The Thai team defeated the host 26-24, 25-21, 25-20 to win the top prize of US$5,000, while Long An pocketed $3,000.

In the third-place playoff, Viet Steel disappointed after an unexpected loss 20-25, 21-25, 23-25 to Myanmar.

VN-US player to try out V-League

Lee Nguyen, a Vietnamese-American player will return to Viet Nam to play on trial with former V-League champions Hoang Anh Gia Lai by the end of this month.

National team managers plan to organise two matches in which Nguyen will take part to show off his skills.

The winger, 22-years-old, has represented the US national team as a member of its youth squad. He played one year at Indiana University, before electing to go pro after his freshman year.

In his international career, Nguyen played for the Netherlands’ PSV Eindhoven before moving to Randers FC of Denmark.

Olympic football team eyes bonuses

Viet Nam Football Federation (VFF) chairman Nguyen Trong Hy has decided to award the national Olympic team VND100 million (US$5,900) for each victory at Malaysia’s Merdeca Cup this year.

The team is making a big bang at the 40th football tournament, beating Myanmar 3-1 last Friday and Mozambique 4-0 one day later to win a semi-final round ticket. The chairman said if the team wins in the semis and finals, their bonus would be progressively higher.
