International grandmaster Nguyen Ngoc Truong Son

International grandmaster and second seed Nguyen Ngoc Truong Son will play an important game against top seed David Howell of Great Britain today at the World Youth Chess Championships 2008 in southern Vietnam.

Son, who leads the U18 male category with five points after six games, will take a giant stride towards the gold if he wins. Le Quang Liem, seeded third, is also in the leading group with four points.

Meanwhile, medal hopeful in the girls’U16 category, Hoang Thi Nhu Y, is out of the race, but Le Hoang Tran Chau is still in the running with 4.5 points.

Le Tuan Minh is second in the U14 male category with five points, 0.5 points behind the leader Yang Darwin of the US; and Tran Minh Thang with five is a U8 male medal prospect.
