VietNamNet BridgeVietnam made a clean sweep of its qualifying rounds with a 6-0 victory over Laos on Thursday, and will meet Thailand in the semifinals of the AFF Women’s Championships.

Assured of a semifinal berth already, Vietnam’s Chinese coach Chen Yun Fat rested his main players for the upcoming semifinal match against Thailand, but the team faced no threat in romping to a 6-nil win.

Nhieu Thuy Linh replaced Nguyen Thi Nga in the defense line, while Le Thi Oanh replaced Tuyet Mai as a striker. Van Thi Thanh, who had played as a left-wing halfback, moved to the right wing, replacing Kim Hong, while Tu Thi Phu played took over the left-wing.
With the home team going on the offense right away, it was Laos who took advantage of a defensive lapse to threaten the Vietnamese goal, but Kieu Trinh was able to stop it.

The home team promptly strengthened their defense and scored the opening goal in the 18th minute with Van Thi Thanh and Le Thi Oanh combining well.

Just three minutes later, Oanh doubled the tally, successfully evading an attempt to block by Lao goalkeeper Choulapanh.

At the 33rd minute, Ngoc Cham latched on to a long distance pass from Mai Lan to make it 3-0.

Eight minutes later, a Ngoc Cham drive was blocked by Choulapanh but Le Thi Thuong was on hand with a hard kick to beat the goalie on the rebound.

In the dying minutes of the first half, Le Thi Oanh found the net again to post a personal hat-trick and Vietnam went into half-time with a five-nil advantage.

Early in the second half, coach Phat substituted, Kim Hong and Tuyet Mai, for Ngoc Cham and Van Thi Thanh.

The Lao team launched many attacks without success, and luck did not go their way as Soukphanya found the top crossbar.

In the 69th minute, substitute Kim Hong help herself to one and Vietnam increased its tally to six.

Meanwhile, Indonesia thrashed Malaysia 3-0 but the result could not help them enter the semis that will be contested between Vietnam, Thailand, Australia and Myanmar on October 18.
