VietNamNet Bridge Viet Nam’s best hope this week at the International Tennis Federation’s U-18 tournament - the Bacamex Binh Duong Cup - is youngster Nguyen Hoang Thien.

Thien, who has been trained in US, meets the tournament’s 4th seed Japanese Hayasi Daichi in the main draw.

Viet Nam has eight players competing against powerful opponents in the main draw, and remains hopeful Thien will be on best form.

In the qualifying round over the last weekend, the host nation’s Tran Ly Ky was the last Vietnamese player who disqualified for the main round.

Ky, who beat South Korean Kim Se-young 2-0, lost two straight sets in the head-to-head game against Thailand’s Prapanpong Chimdee.

On the women’s side, the tournament’s No 2 seed Huynh Phuong Dai Trang, who made it to the second round, will meet Hoang Ngan or Thailand’s Jitsupang Semrej, depending on whoever emerges victorious.

Do Thi Dan Thi will compete against Chinese Taipei’s Wang Ting Na for a berth in the next round, while Le Thi Thanh Thuy will battle Australian Ashley Krysiak.

Tran Thi Tam Hao, the eighth seed is luckier, meeting Chinese Zhang Yu Xuan in the main draw.

Historically, the best achievement was by Nguyen Thuy Dung, who finished a runner-up in the girls’ singles at the ITF Juniors Circuit Tournament Viet Nam, at Ha Noi’s Sao Mai Court in 2004.
