Both teams battled to a 0-0 draw in the first-half. A perfect pass from Danh Ngoc from the left wing led to a well-fired shot by Phan Thanh Binh just seven minutes after halftime, thereby beginning Viet Nam’s winning ascent.

Mozambique players were hungry to even the score and upped their offense, but unfortunately forgot their defence. Viet Nam counter-attacked and did not waste any chances to find holes in Mozambique’s line.

The second goal was made just eight minutes after the first by Hoang Dinh Tung. The two quick losses made Mozambique confused and disclosed their weak points.

Coach Mai Duc Chung of Viet Nam took advantage of the situation and put striker Trinh Quang Vinh in the field to replace Tang Tuan. Vinh quickly busted-out a third goal for Viet Nam at the 67th minute, just 120 seconds after this appearance.

With the third goal against them, Mozambique completely fell apart. Tung had no difficulty scoring his second goal at the 77th, the final goal of the match.

“Mozambique players are strong, and one of their strikers is quite skilled. We knew this from to first half and had a solution for it in the second. My players strictly obeyed our tactics, and the weather stadium conditions were good for us,” said coach Chung.

“The rivals were keen on attacking, leaving a gap between their lines. Viet Nam should have had at least seven or eight goals, having only four was a surprise for me,” Chung said. “The progress of the team is clear. It is what we hope from them”.

It was the second win for Viet Nam at the tournament and ensured their semi-final place. The team will face Bangladesh in the final round.

Last Friday, Viet Nam defeated Myanmar 3-1.
