VietNamNet BridgeThe Vietnamese team got off to a good start on the first day of competition at the 1st ASEAN Beach Games 2008 in Indonesia on Oct. 18.

The Vietnamese volleyball squad defeated their Myanmar and Cambodian rivals, while the Sepak Takraw and Pencak Silat teams won over competitors from the Republic of Korea and Thailand.

VietNamNet Bridge – The Vietnamese team got off to a good start on the first day of competition at the 1st ASEAN Beach Games 2008 in Indonesia on Oct. 18.

The Vietnamese volleyball squad defeated their Myanmar and Cambodian rivals, while the Sepak Takraw and Pencak Silat teams won over competitors from the Republic of Korea and Thailand.

However, Vietnam lost in two other events of Pencak Silat and football.

The 57-strong Vietnamese team are expected to compete in eight beach events, namely body building, Pencak Silat, Sepak Takraw, marathon swimming, handball, soccer, surfing and windsurfing.

The Games 2008 will run until 26, drawing the participation of 45 teams.
