VietNamNet Bridge – A 96-member squad, including 57 athletes, attended a ceremony in Phan Thiet City in the central province of Binh Thuan on Oct. 8 to mark their departure for the 1st ASEAN Beach Games 2008.

The athletes, mostly from southern Vietnam, will compete in eight events, namely body building, beach pencak silat, beach sepak takraw, marathon swimming, handball, beach soccer, surfing and windsurfing.

The ASEAN Beach Games 2008 will take place on the Indonesian island of Bali from Oct. 18 to 26.

The event offers a chance for Vietnamese athletes to increase the burgeoning reputation of Vietnam’s sporting prowess in both the regional and international arena and to promote the country’s beach-sports tourist industry.
