After Huu Vinh, Tuan Anh and Anh Khoa were knocked out, all eyes were turned to Bao who met Kaji Shuto from Japan.

Bao, who had studied his opponent’s game beforehand, won the first set easily 6-2. However, in the second set Shuto fought back to win 4-6.

Undaunted, Bao used the full width of the court to exhaust his opponent. The tactic worked and the local boy took the set 6-0.

Bao will next meet No 7 seed Kittibodee Singnil from Thailand in the last 16.

Meanwhile, Bao’s teammate from Binh Duong Nguyen Huu Hieu defeated Dang Ngoc Vinh 6-3, 6-1.

Nguyen Hoang Thien, also from Binh Duong, eliminated No 4 seed Japan’s Daichi Hayashi 7-5, 7-6 on Tuesday. He will next face Lee Tea-woo from South Korea.

In the women’s competition, Phan Thi Thanh Binh beat Yokosuka of Japan 6-3, 6-4. She will next play No 7 seed Wangtrakul from Thailand.

In the doubles event, Binh, paired with Do Dan Thi, advanced to the quarter-finals after defeating Japan’s Saki/ Momoko 7-6, 6-3. They next meet Huynh Phuong Trang Dai/Kobkanok, the No 1 seeds.

Tran Lan Anh/ Nguyen A Ngoc Van caused a sensation by beating No 2 seeds Thailand’s Khwanthiti/ Gornganok 7-5, 7-5.
