Wisut Artjanawat hits a shot during the Mercedes-Benz Masters Vietnam Sunday at Van Tri Golf Club in Hanoi

Thailand’s Wisut Artjanawat emerged victorious in the US$50,000 Mercedes-Benz Masters Vietnam Sunday after a storming six under par back nine featuring back to back eagles.

The 27-year-old, who carded a course record equaling seven-underpar 65, beat compatriot Pavit Tangkamolprasert by one stroke at Van Tri Golf Club in Hanoi.

Wisut, who also won the Mercedes-Benz Masters Philippines in May, teed off five shots behind the leaders and even at the turn he did not feature on the leader board.

However, he catapulted himself into first place with eagles on 10 and 11 and birdies on the 13 and 15.

His first eagle resulted after he holed his second shot with a wedge while on the following hole, a par five, he hit a three wood to eight feet.

“I was very, very lucky. This is my day for sure,” said Wisut, who finished with a four-round aggregate of eight-under-par 280.

“It is kind of strange because I did not play the par fives very well this week but today I was four under for them. I don’t know what happened,” added the Bangkok native, who won $8,126.

Wisut heads home next week to compete in the Mercedes-Benz Masters Thailand, which is the final event of the season on the Mercedes-Benz Tour. The $75,000 tournament is being played at The Vintage Club from November 26 to 29.

Vietnam’s Huynh Van Son continued his fine form in the event. He finished in equal eighth place last year and was once again the leading local player this season after closing with a 73 to finish in a tie for 25th place.
