VietNamNet Bridge - Karate athlete Nguyen Hoang Ngan defeated her Italian rival S. Battaglia 4-1 in the Kata event on November 14 to grab the first gold medal for Vietnam at the current 19th World Karate Championships in Tokyo, Japan.

VietNamNet Bridge - Karate athlete Nguyen Hoang Ngan defeated her Italian rival S. Battaglia 4-1 in the Kata event on November 14 to grab the first gold medal for Vietnam at the current 19th World Karate Championships in Tokyo, Japan.

Ngan outclassed nearly 60 athletes to secure the trophy. This has been her best result in global competitions so far.

Competitions in the Kumite event began on November 15 and Vietnamese athletes are expected to win medals in this event.

Vietnam sent 8 leading athletes to the tournament, which attracted more than 1,200 martial artists from 89 countries and territories competing in Kata and Kumite.

The tournament is being held under the auspices of the World Karate Federation (WKF) and the Japan Karate Federation (JKF).
