VietNamNet BridgeHCM City’s tennis player Ngo Quang Huy struggled to take the men’s title at the Tennis Tournament – Phu My Hung Cup in a three-hour showdown with Tran Thanh Hoang in HCM City last Saturday.

Huy, the tournament’s top seed, suffered an upset in the first set, losing 6-3 to Thanh Hoang’s powerful forehand strokes.

However, Hoang did not sustain his momentum in the hot weather in HCM City, losing 6-4 in the second set.

In the third crucial set, the tournament’s top seed edged 7-6 (7-5) to take the trophy.

In the women’s final, Tran Thi Lam Anh stepped on the podium after beating arch-rival Tran Thi Tam Hao 6-4, 7-5.

This was the first ever professional title for Lam Anh.

Last month, Lam Anh ranked second after a 2-0 loss to Upapong Kobkaknok of Thailand in the women’s final of the International Tennis Federation Under-18 in southern Binh Duong Province.

Huynh Chi Khuong and Le Quoc Khanh beat Van Huu Nguyen Vu and Truong Quoc Bao 6-2, 6-3 in the men’s doubles final.

The tournament drew over 500 players to compete in men’s and women’s singles and doubles.
