Military Club golden at National Track and Field Championship

The Military Club team won first place at the National Track and Field Championship, which concluded Tuesday at Hanoi’s My Dinh Sports Complex.

At Tuesday’s events, 18-year-old Nguyen Ngoc Dung of Nghe An Province broke the national record in the 20km race-walking event with a time of 1h37’30”. However, Dung’s mark wasn’t official due to improper weather conditions.

Pham Cong Hai of Quang Ngai Province, who had captured the national record at last year’s competition in Ho Chi Minh City, finished second at 1h43’45”.

Pham Thi Hien of Thai Binh Province won the women’s marathon, while Khanh Hoa Province’s Nguyen Dang Duc Bao took home the gold in the men’s event.

Athletes from the Military Club grabbed a total of nine gold, four silver and two bronze medals.

The Hanoi team was in second-place with six gold, six silver and 14 bronze, while An Giang Province placed third with four gold, two silver and one bronze. Da Nang City and HCMC were fourth and fifth respectively.

Seven national records were broken during this year’s event, which had begun on October 30.

The event attracted 355 athletes from 47 delegations nationwide.
