VietNamNet Bridge – Like the two latest SEA Games, a police officer from the Hanoi Police Agency will keep an eye on every move of the national football squad at the ASEAN Football Federation Cup and the AFF Cup in Thailand this December.

The national squad will play football at AFF Cup under the eyes of a police officer.

VietNamNet Bridge – Like the two latest SEA Games, a police officer from the Hanoi Police Agency will keep an eye on every move of the national football squad at the ASEAN Football Federation Cup and the AFF Cup in Thailand this December.

Since the match-fixing scandal at SEA Games 2005, the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) has paid special attention to preventing scandals related to the national squad. Every time the national squad and the U23 squad went abroad, the VFF asked the cooperation of police. In the last two SEA Games, the Hanoi Police Agency sent one officer to follow the U23 team.

About this issue, Chief Coach Henrique Calisto seemed to be very confident: “I know clearly the scandal at the SEA Games 2005 and some people had to pay a heavy price. I don’t think that a similar case will happen for my players. I absolutely believe in them. Nobody would be so silly to do it so I don’t need to talk to my players about this matter, otherwise I would offend them.”

Sharing the same idea with Calisto, Nguyen Lan Trung, Vice Head of the Vietnamese football team to the AFF Cup, said: “The scandal at SEA Games 2005 is a good lesson. Footballers can live by their job and nobody is foolish to lose their career. But in principle, the VFF and the coaching board will take measures to prevent scandals.”
