VietNamNet Bridge – Pham Van Quyen refused to sign a two-year contract with Song Lam Nghe An (SLNA), so recently, this club has stated it will stop pursuing commutation for this striker.

If Quyen is not commuted, he would be unable to play football the next football season.

The contract between Quyen and SLNA will end on December 31, 2008. SLNA offered a new two-year contract to Quyen. Under this contract, Quyen would receive the monthly salary of 6-10 million his first year and VND20 million the second year.

However, Quyen only agreed to play for SLNA for the first year on its terms. For the second year, he demanded a sum of money equivalent to his “value” on the market.

According to SLNA’s managing director Ho Van Chiem, thanks to SLNA, Quyen, from a buffalo boy, has become a famous footballer and earned a lot of money from football.

However, the club made concessions when it announced it would give him a VND500 million ($29,500) bonus if he signed the contract.

“SLNA is a poor club so it is a great effort by it to pay that monthly salary and bonus for Quyen. Quyen should know that when he was serving the Vietnam Football Federation’s penalty, SLNA was on his side,” Chiem said.

The contract may be decided next week when the two sides negotiate for the second time. SLNA is determined to not raise the salary and bonus levels any higher. This club said if Quyen doesn’t sign the contract, it will not pursue commutation for Quyen.

It is expected that if SLNA is successful in asking for commutation for Quyen, this striker could play football again in the second round of V-League 2009 instead of March 2010.

Quyen said that SLNA’s proposals are inappropriate. This player plans to hire a lawyer to protect his interests in negotiations with SLNA.
