HCM City dominate medal tallies at Vovinam Champs; Vietnamese veterans to face-off in footie match; Viet Nam clinch silver medal for Asian Petanque in Taipei; Nation win int’l field hockey tournament trophy

HCM City dominated the National Martial Arts - Vovinam Championship with 13 gold, two silver and eight bronze medal wins.

The Army team came in second and Can Tho ranked third.

The tournament, which closed in HCM City on Sunday, is part of the build-up to the 3rd Asian Indoor Games and the World Vovinam Championship, which will be hosted by Viet Nam next year.

Vietnamese veterans to face-off in footie match

A football tournament for Vietnamese veterans will be held in Hai Phong from November 21-26, the Viet Nam Football Federation has announced.

Players over 40 years old are expected to participate in the tournament. They wilt likely come from Ha Noi, Hai Phong, HCM City and the Army teams.

Already the organising committee has announced that several famous Vietnamese footballers from the 1980s will take part.

The champion will win a cash-prize of VND50 million (around US$3,000), while the runner-up and third place will be awarded VND30 million and VND15 million respectively.

As part of the event, gifts will be presented to child victims of Agent Orange in Hai Phong.

Viet Nam clinch silver medal for Asian Petanque in Taipei

Huynh Cong Tam and Tran Van Be took home the men’s doubles silver medal at the Asian Petanque (iron ball) Tournament in Chinese Taipei.

Vietnamese players also grabbed seven bronze medals in the championship.

Thailand dominated the championship with a total of six gold medals.

It is expected that petanque will be added to the event line-ups at the Asian Indoor Games in Viet Nam and the Southeast Asian Games in Laos next year.

Nation win int’l field hockey tournament trophy

Viet Nam’s Tornado’s A team clinched the International Field Hockey Tournament trophy in the Phu Tho Sport Centre on Sunday.

On the women’s side, the Singaporean team Tornados Chix won the title.

The event, the first ever field hockey tournament in Viet Nam, drew 17 teams from Singapore, Hong Kong, Malaysia and Viet Nam.

The sport is played on artificial turf with 6-person teams. The tournament was designed in a round-robin format.
