Viet Nam eye victory in aerobic contest; Da Nang triumph at student champs; Dac Lac to compete in int’l tug of war; Super Cup to kick off new season

Viet Nam booked tickets to two final events of mixed doubles and trio at the Pre-World Games Tournament’s Sport Aerobic competition which is ongoing in Chinese Taipei.

In the mixed doubles class, the Southeast Asian Games champion Thu Ha and Ba Dong had 19.05 points after the qualifier to rank second after Aurlie Joly and Julien Chaninent of France.

In the trio category, Ha, Dong and Tien Phuong ranked third with 19.50 points. The French team followed with 21.30 points and then Hungary with 20.30.

The Vietnamese representatives are expected to be in the top three, if they maintain their performance in the finals.

Sport Aerobic is one of five different sports in the pre-World Games tournament, which aims as a test before the World Games next year.

Da Nang triumph at student champs

Da Nang Sports College defeated Water Resource College 1-0 to win the National Student’s Football Championship, of VTC Cup, held in HCM City on Wednesday.

After missing several shots, Van Trung headed the only goal at the 25th minute from a corner kick.

The Water Resource team increased their offense in the second half, but lost their steam after star player Ngoc Truyen was sent off the field after his second yellow card in the 60th minute.

The tournament champions enjoyed a VND50 million (US$2,900) prize. Da Nang player Do Quang was voted best player of the competition. Best scorer was Tran Xuan Le, who scored eight goals.

Dac Lac to compete in int’l tug of war

Vietnamese competitors will take part in the Asian Tug of War Championship, which will be held in Macau’s Tap Seac Gymnasium from November next week.

Dac Lac team of Viet Nam which won both men’s and women’s 2008 national titles will take part in the event.

Teams will compete in the women’s 520kg category and men’s 600kg.

At present, 18 teams (eight female teams) from 10 countries and territories have registered to compete at the tournament. Competitors include the men’s team from Japan and the women’s team of Chinese Taipei, which are the title candidates.

Super Cup to kick off new season

The 2009 football season will be kicked off by the Super Cup match on January 31 between V-league champion Becamex Binh Duong and Ha Noi ACB which won the National Cup.

The First Division will start on February 6, and the V-League will begin one day later.

The Second Division will be organised from February 31 to May 15, and the Third Division is scheduled to begin mid-October.
