VietNamNet BridgeTop Vietnamese tennis player Nguyen Thuy Dung has raised her world tennis ranking to 657, according to the latest International Tennis Federation (ITF) numbers.

Last month, Dung, who has been training in Thailand for the last two-years with Roger Federer’s former Swiss coach Diminik, raised her world ranking from 959 to 753.

The 21-year old Hanoian has won the national tennis championship three years in a row. So far this year she has 15 wins and 11 losses in women’s singles matches at tournaments in the Philippines, England and Mexico.

Dung will compete in another ITF tournament in the Philippines from November 10-16, which offers a top prize of US$10,000. She will be third seed behind China’s Lu Jia Jing and Tananta Lavinia from Indonesia.

Her goal is to make it into the world top 500, which would allow her to enter bigger tournaments.

“My target is to compete in as many international tournaments as possible. I need more financial support to ease the burden on my family. If I join the top 100, I could play in a Grand Slam some day,” said Dung.

The 21-year-old right banded player is planning to compete in the Ha Noi Open tournament next month.

Vietnamese player Huynh Phuong Dai Trang from HCM City will also play in the Manila tournament. Trang won the women’s doubles title at the ITF Under-18 in southern Binh Duong Province last month with Thai partner Upapong Kobkaknok.
