VietNamNet Bridge – The Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) said it is willing to pay VND42 billion (over $2.47 million) to bring Manchester United club to Vietnam next year.

VietNamNet Bridge – The Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) said it is willing to pay VND42 billion (over $2.47 million) to bring Manchester United club to Vietnam next year.

“Money” is always a barrier for VFF whenever it plans to invite a foreign team to Vietnam.

However, since VFF earned good profit from the friendly match between the Vietnamese national squad and Olympic Brazil in early August, money seems to be not a big problem anymore. VFF would surely earn profit from an MU friendly because this club, with a lot of stars like Ferdinand, R. Giggs, C. Ronaldo, Rooney, is even more attractive than Olympic Brazil.

VFF Chairman Nguyen Trong Hy said VFF is willing to pay Eur2 million (VND42 billion, or over $2.47 million) to bring MU to Vietnam.

“This is a huge amount of money but we can arrange it. We can get money from tickets, advertising, and broadcasting rights, etc,” Hy said.

The biggest matter, money, is not an issue now, but negotiations with MU are not finished. It is said that the partner has put strict conditions on VFF, for example the stadium must have no advertisements, Vietnamese players must only wear jerseys with their names and national flag, no logos or brands of Nike, etc. VFF is persuading MU to accept some advertisements around the stadium.

While VFF is negotiating with MU, the national squad will surely have a friendly match against Olympiakos (Greece) in May 2009. Olympiakos wanted to have two matches in Hanoi and HCM City but VFF decided to organise only one in Hanoi.

Hy also said that thanks to the assistance of some Italian businessmen, it is highly possible that AC Milan could come to Vietnam in 2009. It is said that negotiations with the Italian partner have passed 70%.

“Everything is running well. If AC Milan agrees, the match between the national squad and AC Milan will be held in early September 2009,” Hy said.
