A team of Vietnamese children will fly to Indonesia today to participate in the second ASEAN Primary School Sport Olympiad (APSSO) to take place from today until Saturday.

The six-day sporting event will welcome teams from Vietnam, Brunei, Cambodia, Malaysia, Myanmar, Singapore, Thailand, the Philippines and the host Indonesia.

The Vietnamese representatives will take part in football, table tennis, badminton and chess competitions.

The football team comprised of primary school children in the northern province of Hai Duong, the winners of the 2008 national primary school football championship, will compete in Jarkata.

Nestle Milo, the sponsor of the 2008 national primary school football championship, is also supporting the Vietnamese team to travel to Indonesia.

APSSO organizers seek to engage children in sports at an early age to nurture intelligence, fitness, sportsmanship and cross-cultural friendship.

The first APSSO was held in Jarkata from November 10-16 last year.
