Vietnamese expatriate footballer Lee Nguyen will likely sign a contract to play for Vietnam’s Hoang Anh Gia Lai Club next season

Vietnamese-American striker Lee Nguyen will arrive in Vietnam today for a tryout at Hoang Anh Gia Lai (HAGL) Football Club.

HAGL Club coach Nguyen Van Vinh said the coaching staff would assess Lee’s ability with a view to offering the 22-year-old expatriate player a contract to prepare for Vietnam’s top flight V-League football season next year.

For his trial, Lee will play for the HAGL team in a friendly match tomorrow against Binh Dinh Club, a team that was relegated to the lower First Division competition last season.

Lee played for PSV Eindhoven in the Netherlands in 2005 and was chosen as the best player in the student football competition in 2006. In the same year, he was a member of the U20 US team that competed in the U20 World Championships in the Netherlands.

In June last year, Lee was a member of the US team which beat China in a friendly match in San Jose, California.

Lee is now playing for Randers FC, a Danish club that is standing in sixth place in the national championship.

The Vietnamese expat will likely become a member of HAGL as he is young and talented. The Vietnamese club has indicated it is willing to meet his salary demand if Lee impresses at his tryout tomorrow.
