VietNamNet Bridge – Vietnam fans got a rare Christmas present as the national team beat Thailand 2-1 in the first leg of AFF Suzuki Cup’s final round in Bangkok on Dec 24.

The first half of the match surprisingly ended with two goals for Vietnam, scored by Vu Phong at the 40th minute and Viet Thang at the 42th.

The host narrowed the gap with an apparently lucky goal by Ronnachai (75’), who was brought in just several minutes earlier.

This is the first victory of Vietnam over Thailand in the last ten years. Before the match, even the most optimistic people could hardly expect such a victory.

The second leg of the final round will take place in Hanoi’s My Dinh stadium on Dec. 28.
