VietNamNet Bridge – A member of the women’s national team has accused the team’s interpreter, Nguyen Manh Son, of embezzling more than US$7,000 while the team was practicing in Kunming, China in September.

According to the denunciator, the interpreter embezzled the money by making false invoices. The team had to pay $9,765 for its nine days in Kunming but Son declared ten days totalling $17,050.

The player discovered the fraud on the last day in Kunming, when this person worked with accountants of the Kunming Sports Centre, where the team stayed.

The denunciator immediately reported the case to the team’s leaders and the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF). The federation asked inspectors of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism to probe the scandal in early November. Son denied the accusation but he couldn’t offer any proof of his innocence. Inspectors, thus, asked for assistance from the police.

Son is a staff of the Hanoi Sports Training Centre. He worked as the interpreter for the women’s national football team during its trip to Kunming from September 7-16.

Son has not issued an official statement.
