VietNamNet Bridge – Viet Nam’s top tennis player Do Minh Quan beat Tran Thanh Hoang 6-3, 6-4 in the men’s singles final of the Masters Viet Nam in Binh Duong Province on Sunday.

Quan, 24, who won the title last year, took an hour to beat Hoang with two straight sets to pocket prize money of VND20 million (US$1,200). His victories have earned him the title of the nation’s No 1.

In the first set, the HCM City-born player suffered a double-fault leaving him drawn with Hoang 3-3. But he soon returned to form to win three straight games and clinched the first set 6-3.

Despite an easy first set victory, the nation’s top champion struggled to finish off his rival in the second set.

Hoang, who rallied 4-4 in the second, did not take his chance to seize on four of Quan’s fumbling, double-fault serves.

Quan came back unchallenged and upped his tempo to win 6-4, taking the final title of the year’s national championships.

Semi-final losers Bui Tri Nguyen and Ngo Quang Huy tied for third place in the men’s singles.
