Duong Anh Vu invited to 3-Cushion; Overseas Vietnamese wows footie fans; HCM City to host international Futsal
The organising board of the 3-Cushion World-Cup chose Duong Anh Vu and seven other players from different countries for the competition. This is the 3rd tournament this year Vu has been invited to. He has steadily made his way up the Asian ranks and is now the region’s number 16. The 3-Cushion World-Cup is expected to boost his position in the world rankings and open up opportunities for him to compete in important tournaments in 2009. Overseas Vietnamese wows footie fans Vietnamese-American Lee Nguyen made his mark in emphatic fashion during a trial match for the Hoang Anh Gia Lai (HAGL) Football Club, scoring a hattrick in a 5-1 win over Binh Dinh in Wednesday’s friendly match. Coach Nguyen Van Vinh said he was “very pleased with Nguyen’s excellent performance. He’s not exceptionally strong, but he is technically skillful, creative and accurate. He is powerful enough with both legs and can get around an opponent wonderfully. “He can play well in the position of a left winger or a striker. He can become a good playmaker who can launch dangerous attacks and create scoring chances. He can also score from a distance. One of the goals he scored was from a distance.” Nguyen will return to his home town in the Mekong Delta province of Ben Tre for a few days and will then fly back to play for his dub Randers in Denmark. He can only play for HAGL in May next year when Denmark’s football season ends. If HAGL want to have Nguyen earlier, they must negotiate with Randers. Nguyen is eager to play for the local club saying that playing for a local club in Viet Nam’s top flight V-League is a dream come true for him. And he hoped everything would be ok. HCM City to host international Futsal HCM City will hold an International Futsal (Indoor football) tournament at the Phu Tho Gymnasium, announced the organising committee. The event will host JTS FC from Japan, Johor of Malaysia, Bangkok Stars from Thailand and Thai Son Nam of Viet Nam. Teams will compete on a round robin basis from December 12-14 with a cash prize of US$5,000 for the champions. (Source: Viet Nam News) |
