Thailand beats Vietnam 2-0 in regional cup opener

Thailand took an easy 2-0 win over Vietnam in the Group B opener at the 2008 Asean Football Federation Suzuki Cup in Phuket Saturday. | |||||||
The Vietnamese players started with less confidence and strength than expected while host Thailand controlled the match skillfully launching several attacks. The home team capitalized on their advantage when Suttee scored from a freekick after 35 minutes. The Thai players doubled their lead in the final minute of the first half when Vietnam’s goalkeeper Hong Son failed to take hold of the ball and Suchao Nutnum turned in from a short distance in the six-yard area. Vietnam will next play Malaysia tomorrow and Laos on Wednesday. In the previous match, Malaysia beat Laos 3-0. Reported by Quang Huy | |||||||
