VietNamNet BridgeThe third day of badminton’s 2008 Yonex Sunrise Viet Nam Open saw an easy win for seeded No 1 Nguyen Tien Minh of Viet Nam in the men’s singles yesterday in HCM City.

Minh, the world seed No 19, defeated Sathien Mouanevongsa of Laos in two sets by scores of 21-7 and 21-8.

Mouanevongsa, who previously beat Vietnamese player Ha Quoc Trung, could not stand up to Minh’s skill and fitness.

Yesterday, Hong Kong duo and No 1 seed Chau Hoi Wah and Wiratama Yohan Hadikusumo defeated Chou Tien Chen and Cheng Wan Hui of Chinese Taipei.

In the first set, the Hong Kong players notched up an easy win at 21-14. And while Chen and Hui fought valiantly in the second set, they still came up short by a score of 21-19.

The host country also had another win in the mixed doubles event when Duong Bao Duc and Thai Thi Hong Gam defeated Wijaya Hendra and Sari Shinta Mulia of Singapore.

In the first set, the Singaporeans played very well and fought for every point before finally losing 28-26. The second set was a much easier victory for the Vietnamese duo as they handily won with a score of 21-12.

In the women’s singles event, the tournament’s No 1 seed, Xing Aiying of Singapore, who is ranked 35th in the world, had a difficult win against Japan’s Kurihara Ayane’s very determined play. Ayane is ranked 107th in the world.
