VietNamNet Bridge – Emil Le Giang, a player of the U17 Slovakia football team and his younger brother Patrick, (goalkeeper of U17 Slovakia) expressed a wish to play for the Vietnamese national team.
According to initial plans, the two brothers, whose father is Vietnamese, would return to Vietnam on December 17-18 to try out for the U22 national squad, but the plan was changed because their mother was ill. Emil Le Giang, therefore, will not go to Vietnam yet, but his younger brother, Patrick Le Giang, will return to Vietnam this month.
Emil Le Giang, 17, is a famous striker in Slovakia. He scored up to 66 goals for the U14 team of Filakovo Club within one football season, and was called to the U16 Slovakia national team.
During the first match as a member of the U16 Slovakia team, he scored the single goal, bringing victory to the team in a match against U16 Wales. Emil was the key player of the U16 and U17 Slovakia squad.
Emil Le Giang is a young football talent in Europe who was hunted by many famous football clubs like Liverpool Juventus and Ajax Amsterdam. However, in August 2007, Emil Le Giang went to the Nurnberg Club at a transfer price of EUR 1 million. He had 15 goals in the first football season in Germany.
Patrick Le Giang, 16, is also an outstanding goal keeper. In 2007 he was called to the U15 Slovakia national squad and invited to join a training course at the goalkeeper training school of Peter Cech (Chelsea) for six months. Though his arm was broken in 2007, Patrick was called on by the U17 Slovakia team, in addition to his brother. Patrick Le Giang was also the number-one goalkeeper of U17 Slovakia squad at the U17 Europe Championship 2008.
Patrick and Emil’s father is Vietnamese and their mother is a Slovakian, both of them are masters of linguistics. The brothers can speak Germany, English, Hungarian and Vietnamese.
Previously, two overseas Vietnamese players tried out for the national squad, Toni Le Hoang (Poland) and Ludovic Catsset (France), but neither of them were successful.
The Vietnam Football Federation said that it will create favorable conditions for overseas Vietnamese players who wish to work for the national squad.
