Vietnam Wushu juniors in top five with two golds

| VietNamNet Bridge - Vietnam’s second gold medal came on the second day of the World Junior Wushu Championship in Bali , Indonesia , thanks to Vu Thuy Linh’s perfect performance in the girl’s qiangshu (demonstration with spear) event.
Linh who already pocketed a bronze medal in the girl’s nangun (south cudgel) event on Dec.10 defeated all other rivals to step to the highest podium with 9.41 points. The first gold medal of the team went to Pham Quoc Khanh, one of the world strongest in the boy’s nangun event. Khanh also took home a silver in the boy’s nanquan (Southern boxing) with 9.34 points. Vietnam ’s second silver was secured by Tran Thi Minh Huyen, a new comer on the national team, in the girl’s taijiquan (taichiquan). In her international debut, Huyen earned 9.12 points for the medal. Thuy Linh later proved the depth of her mettle with a bronze medal in the nanquan event with 9.31 points. Linh’s teammate Vu Tra My who grabbed two medals at the Beijing ’s World Wushu Championship early November helped the medal tally with a bronze in the girl’s changquan (long fist) event with 8.98 points. The last bronze medal of the day was won by Viet Cuong in the boy’s nanquan events. It was the Japanese athletes who capitalised on the absence of the wushu masters on Dec. 11, picking up four golds in the remaining 12 events. Japan led the ranking table with six gold, two silver and two bronze medals. Mainland China were second with five golds. Indonesia moved up to third place, with three gold, four silver and two bronze medals. Hong Kong and Vietnam made up the top five on the provisional standings. (Source: VNA) |
