Vietnam’s number one badminton player top seed Nguyen Tien Minh won the men’s singles final in the Yonex-Sunrise Vietnam Open Sunday beating second seed Chan Yan Kit from Hong Kong 2-0.

Minh, ranked 17 in the world, won the first set 24-22 and the second 21-18 over 26th ranked Kit at Ho Chi Minh City’s Phan Dinh Phung Sports Hall.

It is the first time a Vietnamese badminton player has won a title in the Grand Prix series organized by the Badminton World Federation. Minh received a cash prize of US$3,750 plus VND15 million ($882) from HCMC Badminton Federation, VND10 million ($588) from Vietnam Badminton Federation and $1,000 from his sponsor, electrical stabilizer maker, Robot.
