Vote for top ten outstanding athletes of Vietnamese sports in 2008 launched

| The vote for most outstanding athletes of Vietnamese sports in 2008 was officially launched on December 19 in Hanoi.
The voting results will be announced on December 30. The awards ceremony will be held on March 27, 2009 on the occasion of the celebration of Vietnam Sports Day. With the only a bronze medal from Beijing Olympic Games 2008, weightlifter Hoang Anh Tuan is predicted to win the vote. The vote is also expected to favour other excellent athletes, including tennis player Doan Kien Quoc (29th position in the world’s rankings), track and field competitor Vu Thi Huong, badminton player Nguyen Tien Minh (17th in world’s rankings), young chess player Nguyen Ngoc Truong Son, karatedo ‘queen’ Hoang Ngan and Asian billiards championship Duong Anh Vu. In addition, in the top 5 outstanding coaches, Mai Duc Chung, who leads the U22 Vietnamese national football team to win Merdeka Cup, is seen as the most likely candidate. The winners of the vote will be considered for a top 10 list of culture, sports and tourism events in 2008 by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism. (Source: VOV) |
