After its plan to invite Manchester United to Vietnam was broken, the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) aimed to bring the Milan club to Vietnam. At this moment, this affair is at a standstill.

In global economic downturn without having a big sponsor, it will be very difficult for the VFF to inviting famous football clubs to Vietnam this year. It will be more difficult in 2010, when the FIFA World Cup 2010 takes place in South Africa.

Before inviting Milan, the VFF had planned to invite Liverpool through Carlsberg beer, the major sponsor of this club. But Carlsberg said “no”.

While there is no good sign for Milan or Liverpool to come to Vietnam this year, Italy’s Fiorentina promised to bring its main team to Vietnam.

In turn, the VFF has to pay Fiorentina US $1 million while this club is not a popular name in Vietnam.
