Vietnamese Bulgarian runner Vanina Nguyen wants to play for Vietnam at the 25th Southeast Asian Games this year, the General Department of Sports said.

In an introduction letter sent to the General Department of Sports’ Track and Field Department manager Duong Duc Thuy, the 19-year-old said she competes in short distance categories and has won several medals in Bulgaria and the Balkans. Her 100-meter best score was 11.52 seconds.

Nguyen, born to a Bulgarian mother and a Vietnamese father who named her Nguyen Hoai Van Anh, plays for the Titan Club and has just been called up to join the Bulgarian national team.

The Track and Field Department has asked the Vietnamese Embassy in Bulgaria to provide personal information about Van Anh, so it can ask the Sports Department to create the conditions needed for her to run for the national team.

Anh is very likely to compete for Vietnam at the 25th SEA Games in the Lao capital of Vientiane late this year as she already has a Vietnamese passport.
