Vietnam’s number-one badminton player Nguyen Tien Minh (15th in the world) is about to lose 15 spots in the Badminton World Federation’s rankings since he didn’t take part in two major events in Europe.

This will happen because the HCM City Badminton Federation didn’t register for him to participate in those two big tournaments, which belong to the Super Series system, in the UK and Switzerland. The two events are for the 32 top players in the world.

The former Vice Chairwoman of the HCM City Badminton Federation, Huynh Ngoc Lien, said Tien Minh called her several times asking for help to register for these tournaments but she couldn’t because the Badminton World Federation had announced the list of participants already.

Lien said it is very easy to register for these tournaments but the new officials of the HCM City Badminton Federation might have been unfamiliar with this process so they missed the deadline. Last year, Tien Minh entered the 1/16 round in both these tournaments.

According to the current Badminton World Federation’s evaluation, Tien Minh is about to lose 15 spots to fall to 30th position. It will be difficult for him to return to the top 20.
