Vietnam and Malaysia will probably host the 2010 ASEAN Football Federation (AFF) Cup, Vietnam Football Federation General Secretary Tran Quoc Tuan said Monday.

Tuan, who had returned from a conference in Malaysia to review 2008’s competition, said the choice of host country won’t be discussed until a meeting in July, but it would likely be Vietnam’s as it was its turn to host.

Thailand had the cup the last two times while Singapore and Indonesia organized the group stage.

AFF hasn’t discussed which country would host the group stage in 2010 but Tuan said the Federation would have to consider the interests of the sponsor, World Sport Group.

Talking to Thanh Nien about the conference, Tuan said AFF praised all the teams for their playing spirit, especially Thailand which had been in the throes of a political crisis.

Tuan said, the tournament’s management board, however, made some criticisms of the refereeing, and the behavior of some players, coaches and managers citing Myanmar’s goalkeeper Aung Aung Oo who assaulted Vietnamese referee Phung Dinh Dung in the match against Singapore in the group stage in Indonesia in December last year.
