The Vietnam national football team leapt up to 135th position with 216 marks, according to the latest rankings of the Federation of International Football Association (FIFA) in February, 2009.

Under the direction of Coach Henrique Calisto, the national team moved more 3 steps up in the world rankings, compared with the previous month.

However, there won’t be any promotion prospects for the team in FIFA’s rankings in the next two months due to the fact that in late May, the Vietnam national football team is scheduled to have a friendly international match at My Dinh National Stadium, according to Vietnam Football Federation (VFF).

Also in the latest world rankings, Thailand moved 7 steps up to 117th, continuing to keep the leading position in South East Asian region. Meanwhile, Singapore rose 4 steps up to maintain 2nd position in the region with 226 marks, ranking 131st in the world.

Top five leading teams in the Asian region were Australia with 760 marks, Japan (697 marks), Iran (623 marks), the Republic of Korea (608 marks) and Saudi Arabia (555 marks).

With only 57 official matches between national teams in January, FIFA’s rankings in February didn’t change much with the top three positions in the world still belonging to defending champions Spain (1693 marks), Germany (1403 marks) and the Netherlands (1357 marks).
