Lookatvietnam – The national women’s wrestling team is gearing up to take top places at continental tournaments this year, according to the team’s training board.

The athletes will be trained by experienced domestic coaches including Le Van Suc and Pham Van Ty, a well-renowned coach.

To achieve this, young athletes born between 1990 and 1991 will be head-hunted and brought together after the Tet holidays, said head of the wrestling team, Nguyen The Long.

Dang Thi Van, Nguyen Thi Hai Yen, Luong Thi Quyen and Pham Thi Hue city are hot favourites in the 48kg, 55kg, and 59kg categories.

The athletes will be trained by experienced domestic coaches including Le Van Suc and Pham Van Ty, a well-renowned coach. He previously worked in Ha Noi for many years and trained top athletes like Trang and Giang.

Although the team’s budget is limited, the team still plans to train in China for a short time and to compete in several international tournaments.

Japan, South Korea, China and Mongolia are the toughest rivals at continental level, Long said. As well as stiff competition, the team must also get on minus a few star athletes who recently retired from the team.

Coaches are confident that wrestlers will do well despite these challenges, and are sure that will earn enough points for a spot in the 2012 London Olympics and the 16th Asian Games.

The team boasts an impressive history of victory, bringing home Asian and world medals in the past few years. Nguyen Thi Hang won the silver medal at the World Youth Wrestling Championship in 2005, Le Thi Trang took home silver medals at the Asian Youth Wrestling Championship twice in a row in 2004 and 2005. Nghiem Thi Giang took bronze at the Asian Wrestling Championships in 2005. However, they have all since retired from competition.

Viet Nam wrestling missed out on a chance to compete at the Beijing Olympics Games last year. Wrestlers didn’t play at the World Championships and compete at the qualifying rounds of the Olympics.
