LookAtVietnam – Hoang Xuan Vinh of the Army team grabbed gold in the men’s individual 50m free pistol to help the Army take the overall medal table of eight golds at the National Shooting Cup yesterday.

Nguyen Manh Tuong, who won a gold medal in the men’s individual 25m free pistol on Tuesday, took a bronze medal yesterday.

Vinh, who took the gold medal in the men’s centrefire pistol event at the Southeast Asian Shooting (SEASA) Championships in Malaysia two years ago, gained 645 points at the Ha Noi-based National Sport Training Centre 1.

Hai Duong’s Pham Thanh Son was the runner-up with 636 points. Nguyen Manh Tuong, who won a gold medal in the men’s individual 25m free pistol on Tuesday, took a bronze medal yesterday.

Tuong won gold medals in the men’s free pistol and air pistol events at the Thailand SEA Games in Nakhon Ratchasima in 2007.

In the men’s team 50m pistol, the Army team scored 1,637 points to earn the gold, while the Ministry of Public Security and Hai Duong came in second and third with a total of 1,620 and 1,548 points, respectively.

In other events, Nguyen Van Huyen of Ha Noi, clinched a gold in the men’s individual 10m air rifle, adding 682 points to help Ha Noi take another gold medal in the men’s team 10m air rifle.

Both Vinh Phuc’s Tran Van Thao and the Army’s Nguyen Duy Hoang scored 681 points in the event to place second and third.

In the women’s individual 10m air rifle, Dang Hong Ha, who won a gold at the Southeast Asian Shooting Association (SEASA) Championships last year, took home the gold medal with 374 points. Nguyen Thu Hang of the Army and the host’s Cu Thanh Tu were the runners-up, with 370 points and 348 points, respectively.

The 16th annual event attracted 165 athletes nationwide competing in men’s and women’s individual and team pistol and rifle events.

This event is a chance for the national shooters to gain experience ahead of December’s Southeast Asian Games in Laos and the 33rd SEASA Championship in Thailand, where they will need 12 gold medals to defend their title.
