In a meeting with the Viet Nam Football Federation (VFF) yesterday Calisto said Ngo Le Bang, Tran Van Khanh and Phan Thanh Hung would stay on as part of the staff.

Calisto also said that he would like to introduce a new young coach to help train the national team in order to inspire with new vitality, to which the VFF agreed. Calisto is considering among Ngo Van Sy, Tran Cong Minh and Le Huynh Duc to add that youthful touch.

As scheduled, the national team will resume practice in Ha Noi on May 19. The coach will include a squad of U-23 players and youngsters from the national team in the practice.

The national team is expected to play against Olympiakos of Greece on May 21.

Calisto also plans to invite three other coaches to help him train the U-23 team in preparation for the 25th Southeast Asian (SEA) Games in Laos this December.

The U-23 team will begin their training session on September 4 and leave for friendly games in South Korea from September 20-30.

As the SEA Games approach, Viet Nam’s football team aims to maintain the high level of performance they showed at the Beijing Olympic qualifiers last year in order to take their place on the victory podium for the first time.

The national team’s highest ranking was a quarter-final berth in the Asian Cup co-hosted by Viet Nam, Thailand, Indonesia and Malaysia in 2007.
