With the permission of the Home Affairs Ministry and the sponsorship of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the Vietnam Electronic Sports and Recreational Sports Association (VESRA) will hold its founding congress on March 17, 2009.

The first Vietnam e-sports competition in Vietnam.

The event will take place at the Press Club, Hanoi, attracting 200 delegates who are founding members and guests.

The congress will consider and approve the VESRA’s charter and elect the association’s executive board for the first term.

Prof. Duong Nghiep Chi, former director of the Sports and Physical Training Sciences Institute, chief of the committee to call for the establishment of VESRA, said the association will focus on selecting the national electronics sport team. This team will represent Vietnam at the Asian Indoor Games 2009 in Hanoi later this year.

The association will also cooperate with the Institute for Sports and Physical Training Sciences to help Laos to build an information processing system for the 25^th SEA Games.

At the congress, VESRA will sign a cooperation agreement with the Korean E-Sports Association and the Vietnam Multimedia Corporation (VTC).

The Minister of Home Affairs Tran Van Tuan on January 13, 2009 signed a decision on the establishment of the VESRA. Under this decision, VESRA is a social organisation operating under the management of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
