Midfielder Nguyen Minh Phuong, a member of the national football squad, sold his shoes for VND 45 million (over $3,600) for charity.

The pair of shoe was sold for Nagakawa Hidehiko, a Japanese in HCM City, who is a fan of Phuong’s Dong Tam Long An club.

The pair of shoes was given to Nagakawa Hidehiko in a ceremony held after the first half of the match between the Dong Tam Long An and T&T Hanoi on March 1.

Minh Phuong bought this pair of Adidas for VND5 million ($295) before he joined the national squad. The shoes were used for the first time at the T&T Cup 2008. In this tournament, Minh Phuong scored a goal in the match against Thailand.

He also used this pair of shoes during the AFF Cup 2008. In the second leg of the final, he assisted on striker Cong Vinh’s game-winning goal, which helped Vietnam become the AFF Cup champion for the first time.

The pair of shoes was put for auction on February 3, at the starting price of VND20 million ($1,175).
