LookAtVietnam – The fifth round of V-League 2009 has closed and foreign players have continued giving their clubs goals. The story about foreign footballers in Vietnam, thus, gets longer.

A total of 16 goals were recorded in the fifth round of V-League 2009 and 12 were made by foreign players.

Notably, all seven goals in the match between SHB Da Nang and Military Zone 4 (5-2) were scored by foreign footballers. In this match, three foreign players had two goals, Almeida (Nam Dinh club), Ahmed (Thanh Hoa club), and Amaobi (Da Nang club).

This fact shows the important role of foreign players in Vietnam. The arrival of players from all continents has helped Vietnamese football become more attractive. Vietnamese footballers can also learn from their foreign teammates.

However, many problems have arisen from the presence of foreign footballers. It is good that they score many goals for their teams but it is bad that Vietnamese strikers lose their chances.

The number of foreign football players allowed to play for a given club is still problematic. According to the current regulations, up to three foreign players are allowed to play in the same V-League match. But some say that two foreign players are enough and some have proposed not allowing foreign players at all anymore.

They cite Malaysia as an example. As of 2009, this country isn’t allowing clubs to use foreign players, to create opportunities for local players.

Some say that it is better to have foreign players in Vietnam because their appearance strengthens the attractiveness of football and Vietnamese footballers can learn many things from them.

But it is a given that the story will continue from here.
